“Oi! Where are you going _______?” Havoc called after you as you began to stride out of the conference room.

“Nowhere in particular. Does it matter to you? Now I suggest you keep your big-assed nose out of my damn business!” You snapped back at him, turning the corner of the door frame and walking quickly down the hall of the large military building, disappearing from sight of the others.

“Woah, jeez, calm the hell down…” Havoc mumbled, grumbling about your apparent shitty attitude.

“She’s kinda right, you know. You really do need to mind your own business sometimes.” Fuery lectured as Havoc walked back into the conference room, shutting the door behind him with a slight attitude.

“Yeah, but have you NOT noticed her mood lately?” Havoc pointed out, implying something about your nature.

“Hmm, now that I think about it, she HAS been kinda moody lately. I’ve noticed it in her work, as a matter of fact. Her reports aren’t as thorough and she misses important documentations we make in our meetings as well.” Riza pondered intellectually.

For further background information on your position here, you just so happened to be a state alchemist working for the military. You had only began a couple months ago, around the time that your parents decided to abandon you. To them, you were only pointless and useless as a child, so they left you for dead out on the streets. That day though, was the day you began to study alchemy, getting your nose in every book you could get your hands on. Within a month, through daily trial and error, you had learned enough to enter the state alchemist exam. You were a quick learned, and with your rapid knowledge, you passed the exam with flying colours, earning yourself a position as a state alchemist. You were a pretty damn powerful alchemist at that too; one of the youngest to ever become a state alchemist. The reason you were one of them, and not ‘the one,’ was because there was one young man that had already beat you to the punch.

“Hmm, I bet I know why _______ seems so strange and moody lately.” Roy spoke up from the end of the long table in the room.

“Oh please do elaborate, Roy.” Riza asked, showing enthused sarcasm towards Roy.

“Simple. It’s Edward Elric.” He smirked.

Edward Elric. He was the first person to befriend you when you joined the military forces. Well, technically, your first friend ever to be exact. You became close friends with him and his brother Alphonse fairly quickly. Over time though, through your experiences together, you had begun to like Edward. And by like, you mean a lot too.

“Excuse me?!” Fuery screeched in slight surprise like the oblivious idiot he was.

“Isn’t it a bit obvious? The way she acts around him and all, haven’t you noticed?” Roy said, staring at Fuery like he was an idiot. “Recently he left for an important assignment, remember? He’s been gone for a good three weeks. She probably misses him.” He added smugly.

“You’re probably right. Just the way she’s been acting these past few weeks, she’s been isolating herself.” Riza noted.

“NOW WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO ISOLATE THEMSELVES FROM US?!”         Armstrong boomed from across the room.

“Anyone would want to isolate themselves from you.” Everyone said flatly with deadpan stared.

“Anyway! Back on topic. How should we get _______ to feel better?” Havoc questioned, breaking the awkward atmosphere.

Everyone turned their heads to Roy, expecting him to be the one to do something.

“What? Don’t look t me! It’s not like I can call him back from his VERY IMPORTANT mission.” Roy shrugged.

At that very moment, interrupting the debate, the phone began to ring. Roy quickly answered it and turned around in his swivel chair to take the call with at least some privacy. After a bit of professional mumbling and some snorts, Roy turned back around and hung the phone up, a smirk spread across his face.

“What’s with the look...” Havoc questioned.

“This is rather convenient. FullMetal has finished his assignment early and will be back in Central today!” Roy announced.

“Well, that’s great news!” Riza said cheerfully.

“Soooooo, what did you tell him?” Fuery asked with great curiosity.

Roy leaned over on the table and rested his chin on the small bridge his hands created. “Well, I told him to first write out his report on the train so there would be no long explanation when he got back. He asked why, so I told him about _______, but didn’t say much past the fact that she was feeling really down. He then quickly said he would be back right away. I could totally sense the amount of concern in his voice.” He explained with a smug look on his face.

“Ahhhh, I see. We’ll just have to leave this one up to Ed then.” Riza nodded.

“Tch. He totally likes her.” Havoc scoffed, flicking his cigarette with an annoyed look.

“You’re just jealous that you can’t get a girl~!” Fuery taunted with crossed arms.

Havoc froze and turned completely white, falling to the floor with a thud, completely stiff and lifeless; like his heart at the moment. Everyone laughed at the poor man, and soon dispersed from the room, Armstrong dragging Havoc behind them by one of his feet. Couldn’t leave trash on the floor, now could they? Now all they had to do was wait for Ed to show up and do the rest on your end.

~Ed’s POV~

“Damn it! Stupid freakin’ train delay!” I cursed, stumbling off the train in a hurry.

“It’ll be alright brother! At least we’re here now. It wasn’t THAT bad of a delay.” Al said reassuringly to me.

“Y’know, I’d usually take your head and bean the damn conductor in the face with it, but you aren’t a suit of armor anymore.” I grumbled smugly. “But, I should hurry up and get this report to Mustang’s desk so I can go find _______ By Roy’s description, she isn’t doing to good right now.”

“Right, right. I’ll go run some errands and leave you to it! See ya around bro!” Al called, turning and running off somewhere.

“God, I hope I’m not too late…” I thought out loud, turning and sprinting towards the military headquarters.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

~Your POV~

By now, you had made your third lap around the building in a slow, depressing walk, ands behind your back as you looked down at the floor. It was roughly five o’clock and everyone was gone from their posts, leaving their desks of meetings and boring jobs that usually were hated to be carried out on occasions. You sighed a long sigh before you turned and pushed open the door to Roy’s office, expecting him to be there since he was usually a late worker. Upon scanning the room though, there was no one in sight; just his swivel chair with wheels and a spare in the corner. God knows why he has a spare chair like that though.

“I should really go back to me room… But there’s nothing for me to do there at all…” You mumbled to yourself. “I guess it wouldn’t hurt to hang out here for a while.” You added to yourself, plopping down in the swivel chair poised at the center point behind Roy’s desk, turning it around until your back faced the door you entered.

While you sat there, you  began t remember the time you and Ed would take Roy’s stupid little chairs and race them down the halls just to piss him off. You began to show signs of a small smile at these memories as you absentmindedly spun the chair left and right slightly. Then, you started to think of how it was now. Ed was almost never around, and you had stopped fooling around with him because work had gotten in the way. Now, he’s been gone for three straight weeks without a single word. It hurt to have him be gone for so long. You missed him dearly. You missed his smile, his hair, his jokes, personality, everything. You couldn’t have as much fun as you wanted to with him anymore, nor could you be able to say an important set of words to hi. Three little words that you wanted to say so damn badly that it now ripped through your heart to not at this point. What if he died? It’s been three weeks, so anything could have really happened out there. And now, because of this sudden pileup of thoughts, you just realized that you had begun crying. Tears streamed down you cheeks, but no sound came out. Then again, if you cried out loud, someone would come in at the sound, and you didn’t want anyone to ever see you like this. No one needed to know your feelings yet. And so, you wept silently in the chair, head angled down with an arm hanging limply off the side of the black armrest as the sun slowly began to set and disappear behind the earth.

Right then, you thought you heard the door to Roy’s office open not two seconds after you put your head down to sob silently. But of course, that surely couldn’t be it, considering everyone had either gone home, out for fun in the night, or decided to occupy the provided dorm rooms on the lower level. But, someone definitely did come in. The sound of papers being set down on the desk behind you could be heard, and your face was buried so deep into your knees that you had recently pulled up that you couldn’t see who had come in.

“_______, are you alright?” A male voice questioned, practically dripping with concern.

That voice… It could only belong to one person. Recognizing it immediately, your eyes widened and you brought your head up from your knees to turn and see to confirm, tears still dripping from your face. It was Ed. Edward Elric was here, and he finally came back.

“_______?” He asked again, giving you a concerned look.

You didn’t answer. You just looked up at him as your eyes began filling with tears once again. You then leapt up from the chair and threw yourself into his arms and let the tears fall, letting your voice ring out with the tears this time. Ed was taken by surprise, but didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around you in a warm hug and bring you back down to the chair you were in a moment ago, pulling you onto his lap. You clung to his red cloak and sobbed into his chest, trying your best to not look so gross and ruin his clothes from your moment of weakness.

“D-dammit! Why do you have to be gone for so damn long?!” You asked rhetorically between sobs.

“It’s just what I’ told to do here. I didn’t expect this recent mission to be this long though…” He said apologetically.

“I-I missed you… A whole shit load.” You said, narrowing your sobs down to slight hiccups in your voice.

“Ed was speechless. He just let out a deep breath and let you finish your small crying fit while he rubbed your back. As he did so, these sudden actions began to make him think of something; something he had been meaning to say for a while now, but never found the time to quite yet.

When you finished crying and your hiccups ceased, you loosened your grip on him and sat up on his knee. “S-sorry about that… I kinda let my emotions take over.” You apologized.

“No, it’s just fine _______. I should be apologizing for disappearing on the job for so long like that.” He said sheepishly, rubbing the back off his head.

You shook your head slightly and got up from his knee, grabbing the spare chair Roy had to sit down on properly yourself.

“Here. I thought I’d grab this chair so I could sit down properly. Besides, I don’t feel like crushing your one good leg with my fat ass.” You joked, finally trying to regain your sense of humor to lighten the mood.

Ed laughed at this. “I don’t think you really could have. Besides, that was my automail you were sitting on!”

“Still, I could have! I mean, you being so short doesn’t exactly benefit the situation.” You smirked.

A vain popped out on Ed’s head and his face turned cherry red with short fused rage. “WHO ARE YOU CALLING A SHORTY WHO CAN’T EVEN SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF A GIRL?!” He ranted, flailing his clenched fists over his head angrily.

That moment where he raged, was the moment you started to finally laugh. And when you laughed, you laughed hard. You leaned on the arm of the chair before slipping and falling to the floor, slapping the carpet with one hand as you damn near busted a gut.

“Oh man I’ve missed your hilarious rants too!” You said between laughs, partially pointing at him.

Ed stopped his rage face and looked down at you on the floor, slightly confused. Then, he began to smile slightly, as your laughed tended to be contagious to others around you, no matter the situation. He let you finish your laughing fit with crossed arms, grinning down at your goofy self until you got back up into your chair, still slightly giggling.

“Y’know _______, I bet there’s more to what you also miss about me being back…” Ed said suddenly with a hint of mischievousness in his voice, looking from the chairs to the door a couple times in succession.

It took you a second to catch on, but you soon got it nice and clear. “Ooooooh! I see where you’re going with this~!” You grinned.

You pushed your chair around the desk and out the door with your feet, Ed following behind you. With the idea of what you were doing clearly burned into your hearts from doing it before, you both turned your chairs in the direction of the hall that lead to the staircase; the old route you always took for shits and giggles.

“IT’S CHAIR RACIN’ TIME!” You yelled gleefully, throwing your hands up in the air.

    “COUNTDOWN!” Ed cheered. “3,”

    “2,”

    “1,”

“GO!” You both shouted with gusto as you kicked your feet off the floor harshly, sending your chairs flying with great speed down the hall.

You whizzed down the hall with some hella fast speed for a freakin office chair, catching wind in the most sophisticated place ever. A ninety degree left turn was coming up ahead, and you both began the preparations for it, as you always took this route, so you knew it by heart. You slowed your chair down and let Ed’s pass yours slightly so an accurate turn could be carried out. You turned your chairs counter clockwise and you reached out to grab Ed’s hand, pulling him into your path so you could both kick off the wall and make the turn.

The corner came, and both of you kicked off the wall sharply, propelling yourselves down the hall in a different direction. This time, Ed slowed his chair down and let you pass. You directed your chairs so that they were perfectly lined up with the set of stairs to come. Yes, stairs. Down a whole floor in a square shaped spiral pattern. You stuck out your right hand in anticipation for the first bump, and when you felt it, you slapped your hand on the staircase railing for support as you watched Ed’s automail hand hit the railing with a metallic gip sound. He looked over the back of his chair and shot you a huge grin. You returned the look as you hit the turn on the stairs, you tightening your grip on the railing and pulling a one-eighty down the stairs cheering at the top of your lungs.

Once your chair hit solid ground again, you were grinning like an idiot, laughing alongside Ed. His chair sped up slightly to catch up with yours until he was beside you, sitting cross-legged and casually.

“How’s your arm?” He asked, smirking.

“Just freakin fine! You had that easy though, because you have a damn metal arm!” You responded

Both of you were so busy laughing with each other, that you both failed to notice the wall that was approaching, o rather, you, were approaching. When you decided to check your current course. You saw the wall, bu you saw it coming too late to respond to it.

“OH SHIT!” You screamed as soon as you crashed into the wall.

You had a mini black out from the sudden impact. You could tell it was only mini, because when you opened your eyes again, the wheels on the overturned chairs were still spinning. Ed opened his eyes at around the same time you did, and when you both got a better look at your surroundings and tried to move a bit, you realized that Ed was in fact on top of you, and he was blushing madly, because he had realized it too.

“E-ed, you’re kinda on top of me…” You stammered, blushing a bit yourself.

    “U-uhm, s-sorry _______.” He stuttered in response.

Ed tried to get up and off of you so you could move, but in the process, his foot slipped on a conveniently placed wheel that fell off one of the chairs, and he fell right back on top of you, his lips falling straight onto yours when he did so.

Both of you had your eyes widened in complete shock. It was a total accident, but after a second, you thought it really wouldn’t have been that bad. Ed though, had quickly retreated, his face scarlet.

    “_-_______, I’m so sorry! I-It was an accident I didn’t mean-!”

You cut him off suddenly by pressing a finger to his lips.

“Don’t be sorry. In fact, I really didn’t mind that at all.” You said quietly, smiling.

You removed your finger from his lips and his expression had still remained shocked with a shit load of blush, but after a moment or so, it had graduated into a nervous smile, blush still not letting up.

“Heh… I guess I don’t need to worry too much then. S-sorry for saying sorry.” He said dumbly, showing the slightly look of hesitantly leaning back down at you.

“That was redundant you ass.” You giggled, reaching up and putting your hand on the back of his head, pulling him down and into a non-accidental kiss.

You closed your eyes and put a hand to his chest, finding that he was surprisingly kissing back this time without hesitation. He had his left hand running through your hair with confidence, and his right automail arm supporting himself so he wouldn’t crush you. This feeling that you had always wanted to feel before, was now happening. You could hardly believe it, but here you were, lost in a sweet and meaningful kiss with Ed. The one strange thing though, was that when his automail brushed your skin, it didn’t feel cold, and instead felt… warm.

When you felt the need for air and you both parted, you looked up into his golden eyes and smiled sweetly. Ed then moved off of you so you could sit up beside him properly. It was then, that you spoke something you wanted to for a while.

“Ed, there’s something I kinda want to say, and probably should at this point.” You started nervously.

Ed’s body heated up at the common nickname this time, feeling a different connection with you. “What is it?”

You took a long deep breath before you spoke, preparing mentally for what you were about to say.

“Ed, whenever you leave, I always get sad beyond belief. It’s like I lost something important to me, because, well, I technically did. You’re gone for so long and I just miss you so much, including your laughs, your smiles, and hell, I even miss those little rants you have when someone calls you short.” You smiled. “But I mostly miss you though, because I love you.”

There was a brief silence between you and Ed or a moment before he pulled you into a close, warm hug. You just leaned into him at this moment, and sighed with comfort.

“Sorry I have to be gone for so long all the time. Stupid ass frickin military always has some radical new mission for me to carry out that involves some serious crap to go through…” He mumbled. “But, I really do love you too, and I’m sorry for not being able to see you as much as I could be.”

“Yeah…” You sighed. “But, that’s life. Things happen for a reason.”

“They do. Kinda like Roy’s chairs got completely obliterated by a wall.” He chuckled, lightening the mood.

You giggled at this. “Gee, I wonder how pissed Roy’s gonna be when he finds out we murdered his chairs.”

“Probably completely and utterly enraged at the both of us.” Ed responded, laughing as well.

Then, with perfect timing, you both heard Roy’s voice from the floor above scream: “WHERE THE HELL ARE MY CHAIRS?!” pause, then follow up with: “_______! ELRIC! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!”

“Ooooh yeah he is DEFINITELY pissed.” Ed stated with a matter-of-fact tone.

“And he knows it’s us too. Quick, RUN! Before he roasts us!” You screeched, grabbing Ed’s arms and bolting into your conveniently placed dorm room, locking the door behind you quickly.

You heard Roy stomp audibly down the stairs and past your door with seething rage, coming upon the wreckage of busted up chairs that you had created.

“Holy shit- MY CHAIRS!” He yelled with sheer disappointment and rage in his tone. “Oooooooh I am SO burning up _______ and FullMetal’s ass for this one!” He added with a growl, turning and stomping off back I the direction he came, probably plotting out a terrible revenge for his poor precious chairs.

Once you were sure he was completely gone, the two of you busted out laughing and damn near rolling on the floor doing it too.

“Ahaha! Oh my god that was PRICELESS!” You laughed, clutching your side.

“Yehes! Score for us once again!” Ed cheered, reaching out to high five you.

After the high five, you both calmed your laughing down and you pulled yourself together. Then deciding what to do once you took a quick glance at your clock, you walked up to your bed and jumped face first onto it, Ed following behind you to see what you were up to, sitting down on the mattress beside you.

“Ah, that brings back such good memories~!” You hummed, grinning into the sheets.

“Oh totally! Only this time was a little different. I don’t think he’s ever gotten that pissed before. Maybe it’s because we actually BROKE the chairs this time…” Ed added on with a mall sheepish smile.

You smiled in return and let out a deep sigh, sinking into your mattress. You were definitely exhausted from the boring day today, fighting through depression and escalating back to the activities that made you so joyous before.

“I can tell you’re tired.” Ed noted, looking at your limp form.

“Yeah. Today was a little shitty, but then you came back and made it better. Plus, that chair race winded me for sure. Especially since we friggin ran smack into a wall, and probably dented it.” You said with a smile, laughing slightly at today’s events.

“Oh yeah definitely when we crashed that would have knocked a couple breaths out of us. Although, crashing into my crush was a pretty smooth thing, wouldn’t you agree~?” He hummed.

“Heheh, hell yeah” You yawned, stretching your arms out a bit. “Murr… I’m really tired. Imma go to bed now.”

Ed swiftly pulled back the covers from underneath you and motioned for you to welcome yourself to your own bed with a smug grin on his face.

“C’mon, let me get changed first you ass!” You chuckled, slapping him gently before rolling off the bed and pacing into the small bathroom you had.

It took a moment, but you managed to shove off all your work clothing at once and change into a light blue tee and soft blue shorts for sleeping in. You then kicked the door open and took a running leap at your bead, flopping back down in it and quickly yanking the covers up to your chin. Ed laughed at you and got up from the bed to leave you in your peace for the night.

“Well, I guess I’ll see ya tomorrow then!” He said, beginning to leave your room.

Before he could though you shot your arm out and grabbed the sleeve of his red cloak, holding him back.

“Wait! Don’t go, and stay here with me. Besides, Mustang might be out there waiting to ambush you!” You whined, using Roy’s rage as an excuse.

Ed grinned and chuckled slightly at this. “Fine, I can’t argue with those points. But, I will be taking off all this heavy crap for clothing. Hope you don’t mind~!” He grinned, gesturing to the entirety of his clothing.

You shrugged like you didn’t care, a light pink tinting your face and saying otherwise.

On that note, Ed quickly took off his gloves and cloak, throwing them on a chair as he removed his small jacket and pocket watch as well, setting them on the small desk you had. When he took off his tank top, you started to blush a bit more at the sight. He was so cute and hot at the same time! Ed then took out the brain in his hair, kicked off his shoes, and jumped onto your bed, making you bounce up from the sudden weight.

“Oi, let me under yo covers!” Ed joked.

You laughed and lifted your covers up for him to enter. He then quickly slid under and crossed his hands behind his head casually next to you, shooting you a sideways glance.

“Thanks Ed, for coming back and being here. You really cheered me up, and made me really happy today.” You whispered, yawning again.

“You’re welcome _______. Now get some sleep. You’re most certainly tired as hell right now.” He said, gently kissing you on the nose.

“Alright then. Night~.” You mumbled. “Love you.”

Ed let out a small sigh of happiness and smiled. “Love you too _______.” He whispered, brushing a few strands of hair from your face.

You snuggled closer to Ed and buried your face into his chest. He put one of his arms around you, pulling you closer to him for warmth and closing his eyes, breathing out with slight satisfaction. The two of you drifted off into a sweet, peaceful sleep in each other’s arms, with each other’s warmth. All was peaceful ad sweet in the now late evening.

That is, unless Roy decided to barge in at an unwanted time…
