Ah, what a beautiful evening it was today. No one was around at all. No voices, no sounds, no people, nothing; nothing but silence. This was absolute music to Law’s ears. The everlasting sweet sound of silence.

Law’s sub was surfaced and docked at a quaint little island, and he was relaxed up against the door to its interior, napping soundly with his hat tipped down over his eyes, and his usual long black jacket folded up and set beside him neatly at the base of his nodachi, Kikoku, which was leaned against the wall, and leaving him completely shirtless under the rays of the hot setting sun. He absorbed the slowly disappearing rays of light like a little plant, indulging in the simplistic peace of only the small waves lapping up against the side of the sub and the worn wood and stone of the port.

He took in a single long, deep breath of the slightly salty air, his tribal tattoo’s rising and falling with his tanned chest as he breathed. In the silence, shortly after his breath, he heard something distant resonate through the air. It sounded like… Like someone was calling him. Nah. No one could be calling him. His only and current crewmate at the moment was _______, and she was gone into town, most likely not coming back for at least another hour or so. But, he had heard it again, a little louder than the last time. He opened an eye and peered out from under his hat, trying to see if he could pin point the source of the annoyance. No, it wasn't in sight, so what the fuck, or who the fuck, was causing this disturbance?

    LAAAAAAAWWW~!!!”

“Wha-?! GUAH!” He choked.

You, _______, had come running at his sub with lightning speed, hurtled yourself over the railing, and landed right on top of Law cannonball style with great force, causing him to choke from the impact on his gut, wheezing with a wide open mouth, eyes whited out in pain as his hat tipped from the front of his head to the back, lurching forward.

“Wake up Law! I have some exciting news~!” You chimed happily, straddling him on the deck from your previous flying act over the side.

“_______, get… get off!” He yelled, just barely choking out the words as he wheezed for fresh oxygen. “Jesus CHRIST! Don’t fucking jump on me!”

“Sorry~!” You apologized with a hum in your tone. “I couldn’t contain my excitement and kinda landed on you. But, it woke you up!” You added sheepishly.

Law took the deepest of breaths as he sat himself back up properly. “Alright…” He began, taking one last deep breath. “What kind of news do you have that is so important, that you have to disturb the silence, and ME.” He growled, repositioning his hat on his head.

“Mmm, just THIS~!” You replied, holding a piece of paper in front of his face.

“The fuck is this?” He questioned grumpily, taking the page and beginning to look it over.

“A dance~!” You cheered. “It’s a formal one too! Tuxes, flowing dresses, slow, smooth ballroom dancing…” You mused, beginning to fantasize.

Law put the paper down and stared at you blankly. “And I’m assuming you want me to go with you.”

You nodded your head quickly with stars in your eyes.

“No. Go yourself.” He responded bluntly.

“Awwww! Why?!” You whined, seeming broken by his bluntness.

“Because I said so.” He replied, shooting down your protests.

“Because is an evasion, not an ANSWER.” You shot back. “WHY.” You yelled, face planting into the deck and beginning to groan repeatedly into the boards.

“Oh for fuck sakes.”  Law muttered in his head.

“Is it because you’re a LAME-O?” You began to insult.

“Ooo, so mean.” He rolled his eyes, unfazed by your sad groan insults.

“What, don’t know how to DANCE?” You shot again, lifting your head up abruptly to stare at him and take his second shoot down to the face.

Law opened his mouth to speak, but closed it a second later, like what he was going to say wouldn’t have been valid at all. Instead, he sighed and looked off to his left without a word. You stared at him while he did this, and became slightly astounded that he didn’t shoot a comeback at you.

You blinked. “Wait…” You began, a slight smirk of realization spreading on your face. “You haven’t shot back at me with a no yet… So you mean to tell me… You can’t dance?” You guessed, sitting up again while pointing at him.

Again, he didn’t respond. Instead, his cheeks gained a slight redish tinge, answering your question.

“Oh my god. You DON’T!” You giggled.

“SHUT UP!” He finally yelled, face a little more red that it was a few seconds ago.

You continued to giggle at him for a few more seconds while he made an angry and embarrassed expression at you with crossed arms.

“I’m sorry, that’s just so funny! Why didn’t you just tell me before?” You asked, ceasing your laughs.

“You had no reason to know.” He mumbled.

“Are you embarrassed~? “ You questioned with a teasing hum in your tone.

“FUCK OFF _______.” He yelled again, face completely flushed.

“Aw, you are! That’s adorable~!” You teased, hopping forward and grabbing his torso to hug him.

“Get off me!” He protested, trying to shove you off.

His efforts were futile, and your grip remained strong. He soon gave up and let you do your freakish hug of doom that you always did in situations like this.

“You knoooooow,” You began. “I could teach you how~!” You offered, directing your line of sight into his from your position.

“You? Teach? Do you even know HOW to ballroom dance?” He questioned skeptically.

“So you ARE interested! Yesss!” You hissed happily.

“God dammit.” He mumbled. “I’m sooorry I can’t ballroom dance ma’am!” He said sarcastically, crossing his arms over his chest where your head wasn’t in the way.

“No, no, nobody’s perfect of course, but I can seriously teach you! And if I do, you have to promise me to go to the dance with me tonight!”

Law let loose an irritated sigh. Quite literally, he just couldn’t say no to you for very long. He never has been able to. It killed him to say no sometimes, and you wanting to take HIM to a dance, he had to admit, was something he didn’t want to say no to. He really did want to go with you a bit, but he didn’t want to publicly embarrass himself in front of you. Ballroom dancing was something he was never able to do. Everything else was fine, except for that. But with the circumstances as they are now…

He sighed. “Fine. You can teach me and I’ll go.” He said, giving into your odd charm.

“Yesssss! Awesome! Thank you Law!” You cheered happily, tightening your grip and hugging him again.

“Yeah…” He mumbled, still blushing slightly.

“Okay! So let’s go right now! Get up, front and center!” You directed leaping up and bouncing back a bit to give him room to get up.

    “What… right now?!”

    “DUUUUH.”

    “Why?! It’s only-!” He started.

“Eight in the evening! Only eight. Did you not read the paper?! It starts at ten you buffoon! It’ll take me an hour to teach you the basics in the least! Unless you wanna completely wing it all over the place and act like you already know what you’re doing.” You interrupted, looking over your nails casually.

“…Fucking hell.” He muttered. “You are so persistent.” He grunted, standing up from his resting place,

“You wanted to learn!” You shot back.

“Yeah, after your constant pestering of course.” He murmured.

Once up, Law reached down for his jacket, unfolded it, and began to put it on again.

“Aw, why’re you putting that back on?” You pouted.

“… Because it’s proper to wear clothes during waking hours in the presence of others whilst learning something?” He answered questioningly. “Why do you care?”

“No reason~” You said innocently, turning around and walking to the centre of the deck.

“Jesus.” Law breathed, a light blush tinting his cheeks again, understanding what you were saying. Zipping up his jacket most of the way, leaving room for his neck, he began to walk to meet you at your position on deck.

“Alright Mr. Grump, let’s teach you how to dance!” You began.

    “Don’t call me that.”

“Fiiiine. Anyway, for starters, you have to lead. Obvious, right?” You stated.

“Yeah. I’ve danced before. Generally the male leads.” He retorted.

“So you’ve danced before. Do I really need to teach you then?” You inquired.

“Yeah you do! I mean I’ve danced with other genres of music and types of dances! I’ve never ballroom danced before! Jeez. I’m not into that slow shit.”

“Neither am I, but it’s still so fun! So, I’ll teach you. Now, when the male leads, you hold your hand up here so I can put my hand here, and put your other hand here, and mine here.” You instructed step by step.

You directed him verbally, and physically took his hands and put them where they were supposed to be. One up for you to rest your hand on his, and his other on your waist while your other free one rested on his shoulder.

“This is the basic position.” You reminded.

“S-seriously? Christ its close.” He muttered.

“Was that a stutter?” You thought with a grin. “Well duh. It’s a partner dance. You ever try to dance formally alone?”

    He gave you a look.

“Oh, right.” You chuckled sheepishly. “You haven’t period. Well, that aside, the next logical way to go, is to teach you at least two different steps, and a couple of spins.”

With that, you began to show him exactly two dances, starting with the basic waltz, in the time of 3/4. There were a couple times where he stepped on your feet, and even tripped over himself, but he slowly learned and smoothed everything out. Once you were sure he had it, you moved on to a 2-step, which he seemed to manage quicker after learning the waltz. Getting that down, you taught him three or four basic spins, and in roughly an hour, you could successfully call your lesson done.

“There! I think we can safely say that you know basic ballroom dancing!” You concluded, stepping back from Law. When you did, you suddenly began to miss the closeness… oh well. “I am a dancing GOD.” You murmured to yourself, feeling like you had just had the most perfect success in the world.

“Sure. You go right ahead and think that.” Law said, rolling his eyes. “Its nine now. What’s your plan for the dance then since it starts so soon?” He asked.

“Shopping.” You answered quickly with a wink.

“Shopping. Do you really think we have the time for fucking shopping?” Law asked again, staring at you like you were stupid.

“Nope. But guys shop quickly, so there should be no problem on your part~!”

“And what about you? Don’t you need a dress for a ball? You don’t even own anything even close to a SKIRT.” Law shot.

“I know. That’s why I called the local dress shop in advance. They have a few things waiting for me based on my description. If all goes well, I’ll be ready in forty-five minutes. And you, the local tux shop is literally a block for the sub. You’ll be able to get everything you need in half an hour I’m sure. And the staff will give you directions to the dance hall.” You told him informatively. “So let’s go~!”

Law sighed. “Lead the way then.”

“Yes sire~!” You joked, grabbing his hand and yanking him off the sub. The only thing he could think about at the moment though, surprisingly, was how warm your hand was. How sweet.

    *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“First stop, tux shop. There ya go Law boi.” You announced, gesturing to the sleek black shop before you. “Have fun~!”

“What? Not coming in with me?” He questioned, knowing your nature.

“Nope. I like surprises~!” You answered. “Besides, I have a dress to pick up, remember? The dress shop is a couple blocks from here, so you go ahead and take your time. But not too much time.” You added.

“Alright then. See ya.” He said with a shake of his head, proceeding into the shop.

You waved your hand over your head and walked away down the street, onward to the dress shop. It took a few minutes, but once you did, a tall glass building stood before you, and once you pushed yourself through the revolving doors, you were greeted with thin to poofy dresses, and an incredibly beautiful saleswoman with a great attitude and a beaming smile.

“You just be _______! You called here earlier describing a few dresses for tonight, am I correct?” She inquired.

“Bang on.” You nodded with a smile. “Show me what ya got!”

“Absolutely! Right this way please~!” She sang, leading you to the back of the store where all the dressing rooms were.

From then on, she brought you five or six different dresses to try on. Some were poofy, some were sleek, some short, and some long. You went through them all, but sadly didn’t find one that you felt absolutely perfect in. The thought crossing your mind the most, was how good you wanted to look. You honestly wanted to look extremely good for Law tonight. To make his jaw drop at your unseen beauty. That is what you wanted the most. There was a reason you wanted to go to this dance with him, and your dress had to be absolutely perfect too. Otherwise, you might fail to impress your secret crush who was your greatest captain and friend.

“Not working for you honey?” The woman asked, looking you up and down in the sixth dress.

“No.” You answered, shaking your head. “But about all six, I’ll tell you the aspects I liked. I really liked the long and sleek one with the split up one side, and the one with no straps too. The yellow colour was a nice accent on the last one, and I kinda like big embellishments that get smaller like they’re fading. And black. It has to be black. No questions asked.” You explained. “It just, reminds me of someone when I say it like that.” You murmured.

“Might I see a picture of this someone?” She asked.

“Eh, sure. I always have a picture somewhere since I have to label my den den mushi’s half the time.” You agreed, pulling out a full body picture of Law.

“Oh. Oh my god. Please, wait here. I know exactly where I can find the perfect dress. Please. Wait here.” She said suddenly, running off as fast as she could with a look of wonder and amazement on her face.

A little confused, you stood there and waited for her, sitting in your undergarments with the rest of the dresses hanging on the wall. When she came running back, she held a neatly packaged dress in her arms.

“Let me put this on you. While you’re facing away from the mirror.” She asked, panting from her run.

“Sure. I do like surprises after all.” You chuckled, standing up for her.

The moment you were up, she unzipped the dress bag and began to slip it on you quickly, smoothing everything out as she went. She seemed really focused on getting it on you perfectly. This had to be some special dress if she as getting so worked up about it.

“There, it’s on. Please, turn around to face the mirror.”

    “Alright.” You replied, turning around.

What you came face to face with in the mirror nearly made your jaw drop to the floor in shock. You were completely stunned at the image. The image that was you. The dress, was absolutely perfect. It was long and black with a beautiful subtle shine to it. There was a slit on the right side that went all the way up to your hip, allowing room for movement. It was strapless, and held yellow patches of glitter in the shape of slightly misshapen circles, starting big at the bottom, until they faded out to being microscopic near your waist. It looked like Law’s jacket, only in dress form. The woman wasn’t kidding around with her reaction at all.

“This is… perfect.” You mumbled, staring at yourself.

“I knew it. I just had to get this on you. The thing is, its 100,000 beli. But since it’s you, and many other reasons, I would like to sell it to you for only 10,000.” She said.

“WHAT?! THAT’S A HUGE DISCOUNT.” You yelled, completely shocked at the offer.

“I know. But tonight is a special night, and I can tell, you really want to impress this man.”

You blushed. “I-I guess you could say that. I’ve never wanted to before, so…”

“So this is all the more important. You can have that dress for the discount.” She nodded with an honest smile. “You look absolutely stunning in it.”

“Thank you, so much!” You finally said with a wide smile. Looking at the time, it was fifteen minutes until the dance started. “Oh, just in the nick of time. The dance starts soon.”

“You can use our bathroom to put on makeup and do your hair if you wish. Wear the dress out as well. We wash all our products before selling.” She said.

“Again, thank you so much!” You thanked, handing her the money and dashing off to the bathroom to do your makeup; something you never ever do unless it was a special occasion.

Finishing your makeup in ten minutes, you dashed out again, waving to the saleswoman before taking off down the streets with no shoes in your new dress, being very thankful that the theatre the dance was being held at was only a block away. People were lined up at the door, just now being let in. You sighed with relief for not being late as you slipped on a pair of black heels, approaching the usher at the door. Giving your pay, you were allowed into the dark hall, the last of the dipping sunset disappearing as the low lighting of the building engulfed you.

Walking in, you took in the low purple lighting that spilled out onto the main dance floor, and dim candles lighting the tables that rimmed the floor. It was a pretty set, and as you walked on it, you took yourself to the nearest table for two and sat yourself down.

“Where are you Law? It’s already started.” You mumbled, glancing at the clock on the wall that read 10:10.

After sitting there for a moment, you were soon offered wine, and gladly accepted the waiters offer. Sipping it gingerly, you scanned the crowds for Law. Not a sight of him was to be seen yet.

“Ayyyyy little girlie~! Wanna party?” Some drunk and rather unattractive male slurred, sitting on the opposite side of your table.

“Uh… no. Please leave. I’m waiting or someone.” You replied blankly, leaving no openings for yourself.

“Come oooonnn~! Just a little~!” He said again, getting up and reaching over to grab you by the arm.

You backed up in your chair and stood rapidly, just avoiding him. “Fuck no! Get away you creep!”

He was about to approach you again when you felt a pair of hands on your shoulders, making you squeak in surprise and freeze.

“I believe she said fuck off. Get outta here you fucking disgusting creep.” A low yet smooth voice growled.

The sound of the voice made you relax instantly. It was Law’s. The man from before took one look into his eyes and scrambled off with a look of fear on his face.

    “You alright _______?” He asked.

You sighed, turning around. “Yes, I’m fi- oh… wow.”

You halted your sentence and stared up at Law who stood before you. He looked extremely attractive in the suit he was given. It was a phenomenal sight.

He didn’t even make a reflexive response to that. He too, was busy staring at you. Now that you were turned around, he could see the full length of the dress on you, the golden sparkles design, the slit, the colour, and just all over, you.

“God damn you look gorgeous.” You both mumbled at the same time.

“Oh. Shit uhm…” You blushed, realizing what you just said.

“I- uh…” Law stammered, blushing as well.

“Let’s uh, sit down then, shall we?” You asked, breaking the awkward as you gestured to a table.

He nodded and the two of you went and sat at the table you were previously sitting at, the wine bottle still there with one half full glass and one empty. You filled it quickly, and sipped your own, unsure of where to start for a conversation.

“_______, your dress. The designs seem fairly familiar.” Law commented.

“Y-yeah. They kinda just had this dress, and it really reminded me of your jacket so I kinda couldn’t help it and bought it. It… Looks okay, right?” You asked shyly.

“Of course. You look absolutely beautiful in it.” He responded.

Your cheeks were suddenly sent aflame from the comment. Why were you so easily sent to blush town now? You were oh so cocky only just an hour ago! Must be the atmosphere… or the fact that Law is the one saying these things. He hasn’t even showed signs of annoyance yet.  And he just looked so damn hot in that suit.

“T-thank you.” You stammered, shifting in your chair and looking down into your lap where you crossed your hands over each other.

It sounded like the majority of people had entered the hall, as the music began to start up, the lights focusing on the dance floor, illuminating it with not only the purple, but some blue too. Couples gathered on the floor and began to do a slow dance with each other. You looked over at them, then at Law.

“You wanna finish out wine instead?” You asked awkwardly, not exactly wanting to take on the first dance right away.

“Sure.” He nodded, picking up his glass and taking a sip from it.

You sat there in silence as you sipped your wine slowly, songs beginning to pass on by, each being a good five minutes each. By the time the fifth song had come on and was more than halfway through, you had finished your wine, and Law shortly after you. Looking up at him, the song had sounded itself to an end, and a brief silence came over the place before the next song had begun. You made eye contact with him and he leaned over the table slightly.

“Would you like to have this dance?” He asked.

You gulped, that fated moment that you knew was going to happen tonight happening. You were ready for it when you brought him the paper, but now you were just a nervous mess.

    “S-sure.” You responded.

He stood, and offered you his hand, you taking it and standing up from your seat. He led you out to the dance floor, where you both assumed the basic dance position. It felt different this time. It wasn’t a lesson or a joke this time. He was actually going to dance with you at a formal ball, and the feel of his hand on your waist sent shivers down your spine.

“You remember how to do it, right?” You whispered.

    “Mostly.” He answered, chuckling slightly.

“Good enough.” You breathed, finally getting a chuckle out that wasn’t you being embarrassed about anything.

The music picked up, and you both began to move across the dance floor together with the rest of the people, avoiding them as you went. You were blushing, that much was unavoidable, but even so, the way you glided across the dance floor was quite surprising, considering you only taught him the basics a couple hours ago. The sweet sound of a violin was in the music, being paired up with a piano and more, making the song sound beautiful and smooth, but also lively at the same time. He was a good lead with it, much better than you expected too. Soon, he had you pulling some spins, making some of the other dancers look like complete novices.

“Shit. You’re doing pretty well from just learning.” You comment once you’ve stopped your last spin.

“I’m a quick learner.” He replied with a smirk.

“Good. I was afraid you might have stepped on my toes by now.” You giggled.

“Oh, can it _______.” He scoffed, taking you on one wildly graceful spin on one movement, spinning you out as the ending of the song approached. Then, he spun you right back in, extremely close to him with you pressed right up against his body.

You began to blush at the close proximity, and looked up at him in the dim purple lighting. Your faces were inches from one another, and something in your gut just told you to do it. Blushing profusely, you leaned up, and to your surprise, Law leaned down, his lips inching closer to yours. Five centimeters, three centimeters, one… Just as you were that close, a couple had ran into you, knocking you off course and tearing your closeness from each other. The couple apologized and danced away, leaving the two of you blushing awkwardly dead center of the dance floor.

“U-uh, well that was…” You began.

Law cleared his throat. “Disappointing…” He finished. “Idiots.” He added under his breath.

You sighed, feeling a little disappointed like he said. Just as you backed up from him though, a new piece of music started. Something you didn’t expect at all. It was swing music. Or, a cross between swing and jazz.

“Oh god. I can’t dance to this. I’ve gotta get out of here.” You mumbled, turning to find a way off the dance floor. Looking around, you halted, finding not a single opening for you to have exit from. “Shit!”

“_______, what’s the matter?” Law asked.

“I can’t fucking dance to this! I don’t know how!” You fretted, seeing that you were stuck in the middle of the dance floor.

“Really? It’s not hard. I thought you were a dancing god?” He commented, smirking at you.

“Hard?! Of course it is! I said it as a joke too! I taught you basic ballroom dancing! Cause you can’t fucking dance! Don’t talk shit cause you can’t dance!” You shot back in a hushed voice.

“I said I couldn’t ballroom dance. But I didn’t say anything about not being able to dance to something like this~!” He hinted, taking off his jacket, throwing it perfectly across the floor to the table you were at before, leaving him in his dress shirt, vest, and tie. “It’ll get hot in here. Follow my lead.” He told you with a sly smile, taking you on his hands again, in a slightly different position than the last.

    “L-Law!” You stammered.

“It’s easy. Just go with it.” He said once again, the trumpets and saxophones kicking up in the song with a quick and increased beat, a lovely string base accompanying the melodic piano and metal xylophone with the sound mocking some sweet and deep bells.

The moment the song kicked up, so did Law. He began the most furious and quickest steps you’ve ever seen, and made you question how you were going to not fall flat on your face in the heels you chose to wear. You scolded yourself for not bringing flats with you; not that you’d have a chance to switch them out anyway. Regardless of that, Law brought you into a quick paced swing step, and you found your feet to be miraculously moving perfectly with his, at the same pace, making it look like some complicated formula of witchcraft was being performed by your feet. It was unbelievable. How did he know how to move like this?!

Further from that question, you found yourself still in the middle of the dance floor again, only this time, there was a slight clearing for you as the purple and blue hues of lighting dimmed around all the area except for where you were. They cleared room for you, because Law was so good. Wow. The spectacular spins he was performing were absolutely amazing, sending you whirling in his arms. You were so thankful for the slit on the one side of your dress at this point.

There was a whisper of a word in the song that occurred about three times, judging by how the song was playing out. The next would come soon, and on the beats just before, Law sent you spinning out, then back in, leading you into a dip that took you down to almost ninety degrees with the floor. You gasped at the action, never having executed such a maneuver before with your arms around his neck for your own support.

“Law! I didn’t know you could-!”

“Hush, This is the best part of the song~.” He whispered, leaning his head down and pressing his lips onto yours in the dip he held you in by your waist and upper back.

Your eyes widened in both shock and embarrassment, a wild crimson blush taking over your face as you hung off him. Everyone was looking, the lights were focused on you and Law, and you swore your entire face had become a space heater. The song had come to an end, and the entire dance floor erupted with applause and wolf whistles, the lights flickering from blue, to purple, to red in succession. Law removed his lips from yours and stared down at you with a smirk.

“That was much better than the last time, was it not?” He asked with a cocky smile.

“Y-you’re so embarrassing! Everyone’s looking!” You whispered, clutching your hands around his neck as he pulled you upright again.

“Hahah! You look so cute when you’re embarrassed~!” He noted, chuckling at your reddened face. “And isn’t it best to make a proper statement in public, hmm?” he added, leaning into you.

“S-shut up.” You mumbled, averting your eyes to the floor.

Music started up again, being another variety of swing and jazz.

“Care for another round?” Law asked, tilting your chin up.

You let out a shaky breath, gulping down every bit of confidence and desire you had. “Only if we can start where we left off.”

Law chuckled. I like the way you think ______.” He said, capturing your lips with his once again.

This time, you took hold of his tie with one hand and pulled yourself up into him, and he took you down into another dip, one where he hovered over top of you, with you being completely parallel with the floor, eyes shut, leaving the two of you encased in the musical bliss of the night. A place where you would continue to dance in each other’s arms until the night called you home.

w00p. did another one.

Take it. love it. mmmmm it. idfk it.

just it it.

This is me whenever I see my best friend/secret crush....
