Luffy X Reader: That Damn Song

Boring ship, boring islands, boring day period. Sanji was boring, Nami’s antics were boring, Luffy was even boring! Brook’s music just couldn’t strike you the right way at all, and all his beats were boring. Boring, boring, boring!

“Can someone pleeeeaaase just spot an interesting island?! I’m bored, I’m dead, I’m done.” You whined, slumping down in your chair until you slid off and onto the grass of the deck with a long and exasperated sigh of disappointment.

“_______, we’ve been pointing out islands… for 3, hours. THREE HOURS. None of them were appealing to you. Get up and go look for one yourself instead you lazy ass!” Nami shot at you, resuming her duties of reading her sea charts.

“Fine! I will!” You said stubbornly, getting up from the ground and stomping up to the figurehead of the Sunny to get a good view of the sea before you.

Of course, when you got up there, Luffy was already sitting up just past the main of the lion figurehead, staring out at the sea aimlessly.

“Yo. Mind if I come sit up here for a sec?” You spoke up to ask, putting your foot on the edge of the ship and your hand on the orange main.

“Hmm? Oh! _______! Sure!” Luffy answered with his usual big and childish smile.

“Sweet. Thanks.” You said, climbing on and sitting next to him.

You had a bit of determination set in you because of boredom, and you scanned the area where the sea and the sky met, staring at the islands dotting the horizon with hollow eyes, waiting to fill them with an island of interest. There was silence, and nothing but it while you looked, and this bugged Luffy.

“_______, why are you so quiet?!” He whined, expecting you to have started fun conversation to entertain him with.

“I’m looking for an island.” You answered back simply.

 “Why?”

“Because I’m bored and I want to go visit a fun place.” You answered back with a sigh.

“A fun place….” Luffy pondered, turning to stare out to sea with you. He watched the islands that dotted the horizon carefully, as if he would really be able to tell which island was fun.

You too, stared at the islands, which looked like small black lumps on the sea against the setting sun. “They look un fun. Luffy do something.” You groaned, slumping forward until your face hit the figurehead. You were completely spent like the five year old you were acting like.

Luffy didn’t answer, surprisingly. Curious, you looked up to see what could have caused him to not respond to you. “Luffy what are you-!”

“There! Found one!” Luffy laughed, pointing out a few hundred yards to the south-west.

You followed his finger and looked out to the island he was pointing at. There were coloured spotlights beaming up from it, and loud music could be faintly heard from the distance you were at. “Well isn’t that convenient.” You muttered, staring at the island.

“We’re going there! Let’s go have fun _______!” Luffy said suddenly, wrapping his rubber arm around your waist a couple times.

“W-wait, Luffy, what are you- AAH!”

You couldn’t get a word in edgewise with the slight g-force that hit you. Luffy had launched the two of you from the ship, to the island, using the conveniently placed rocks that surrounded it as places to grab onto for launching. Not exactly the method you wanted to use to get there, but you had no choice now, as you were currently hurling through the air. Behind you, the crew had heard the stretch of rubber, and seen you go flying with Luffy. Changing courses they will be indeed.

“Luffy what the fuck is wrong with you!” You screeched, nearly on the verge of pissing yourself from going flying so suddenly.

“Shishishi! Just taking you out to a fun looking place~!” He answered simply with a childish grin.

“Jesus fucking CHRIST get there faster then because I’m not a fan of being LAUNCHED AGAINST MY WILL.” You said with a panicked tone.

Well, he was gracious enough to fulfil your request, as you ended up on the docks of that particular island within the next ten seconds. He landed smoothly with you, and unravelled his arm from around your waist to let you go free again.

“Ohmygod ground I’ve missed you so much in those last twenty seconds.” You murmured, getting down and kissing the docks.

“. . . Are you okay _______?” Luffy asked, tilting his head to the side in confusion at your strange actions.

“Yep. Fine and dandy now that I’m on solid ground.” You replied, standing up and dusting yourself off lightly.

He took it lightly and smiled wide again. “So, let’s go have fun now!” He said happily, pointing towards the highly populated looking centre of the island where the lights shone brightly, getting brighter and brighter the more the sun went down.

You sighed. “I did ask for it… And I’m here now. Alright, let’s go.” You said, putting a smile on your own face now, completely over the launching thing.

“AWESOME!”

With that, Luffy took off running like a child to the island’s centre. You scoffed and shook your head before chasing after him at an equal pace.

The run didn’t last too long, because once you got closer, there was a huge gateway presenting the main attraction that the lights were coming from. It was huge. Gold plated and everything too. A sign on the front in big lettering read ‘Dance Carnival’ with flashing borders.

“Dance Carnival… have I…. Heard that somewhere before?” You pondered.

‘It does sound familiar…” Luffy thought aloud, looking equally as inquisitive as you did.

“Woah, you’re remembering something? That’s a first!” You joked, laughing.

“Hey! That’s not funny!” Luffy pouted, crossing his arms.

“You know I’m kidding~!” You giggled, pinching one of his cheeks playfully. “Now come on. If there really is something familiar about the name, we’ll find it in there. Come on!” You said excitedly, taking his arm and dragging him through the gate and into the territory of the fun you were oh so desperately looking for.

Music pumped loudly through the air where you wandered. You were getting amped up with excitement the more you were around it. Something just screamed ‘wait for it’ in the area. You felt like something big was going to happen. Walking through with Luffy, you came across a large stage sparkling with lights.

“Yo, look at that. I bet some major shit is gonna go on there.” You said, pointing at the stage.

Luffy nodded in agreement with your statement.

“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! I’D LIKE TO ALL FORMALLY WELCOME YOU TO OUR DANCE CARNIVAL!” A booming voice suddenly announced, echoing across the area.

“Jesus! Didn’t see that coming!” You jumped, holding your chest where your heart was for fear it might jump out.

Luffy laughed at you and you gave him a scowl that read ‘shut the fuck up’ before pouting slightly.

“IT’S THAT TIME OF EVENING. TIME FOR OUR GRAND. DANCE. FESTIVAAAAAAAAL! GET YOUR MUSCLES READY TO DANCE!”

“What…” You said blankly.

“I think they’re going to play a song… and everyone’s supposed to dance.” Luffy said dumbly.

“No shit Sherlock!” You scoffed, slapping his chest with the back of your hand. “Let’s just wait and see what song this is gonna be then, shall we?”

Seconds passed, and then, the so called song that was set to be played came on through several ship sized speakers placed around the area. It sounded... familiar. Too familiar. The way it started… these sounds… the way it made your body want to move… Oh.

“Luffy. This song… remember that one island… where Jango…”

“…OH! Now I remember! THAT dance carnival! The one where Jango hypnotized all of us to dance!” Luffy said, slapping his fist into the palm of his hand.

“Yeah. This is that same song that was playing before. But… there’s no Jango, and I still, really want to dance.” You said awkwardly.

“. . . Me too.” Luffy said.

“This damn song… Jesus… It’s too catchy. Screw it. Screw it all. I’m dancing.”

Just as you said that, the song had picked up, hit its first beat. You were fucking ready, and you couldn’t help it. You were so compelled to dance. No wonder they called it a dance carnival. Everyone else was joining in too. And lo and behold, right next to you, Luffy joined in beside you.

“Yep! Still catchy!” Luffy laughed, remembering it from years ago.

“Look at all these basic bitches. Let’s step this up a notch.” You grinned, looking at Luffy.

The fast pace hit. The words flowed. This is how you liked your music. Fast fast fast!

“Step it up… Oh, I got it~!” Luffy said, returning your grin.

Yes, you were going to go all out in a partner dance with him. Fast, quick, smooth, and graceful at the same time. In seconds, you hit the streets with the hardest dance moves you could ever remember yourself doing, spinning, jumping, and all sorts of things. The best part, Luffy actually made an amazing dance partner. He was so in synch with you, that it wasn’t even funny. He waved, rolled, and spun to match you perfectly. It was a majestic assed thing.

“Yes! I didn’t think you could dance Luffy!”

“Shishishi! Of course I can!” He laughed, like he had this talent all along.

Soon, midway through the song, spotlights scanned the crowd for some reason. These spotlights, when they passed over you and Luffy, stopped, and stayed on you. Looks like they were scouting out the best dancers. Lo and behold, it was you two, guessing by the fact that the spotlight had no signs of moving anywhere.

This just boosted your confidence, and just as this particular song was coming to a close, you gave a signal to Luffy, and he seemingly knew what to do. You pulled some radical move, bouncing off him and flipping in the air multiple times before landing back down beside him and you both posed some epic pose as the song ended.

There was an applause from everyone, and the announcer came back on again.

“AMAZING! WE’VE HAD GREAT DANCERS BEFORE, BUT I’VE NEVER SEEN A PAIR LIKE THESE TWO!” He blared, the spotlights flashing on you and Luffy. “CONGRATULATIONS! YOU TWO HAVE WON THE GRAND PRIZE OF THE CARNIVAL! TEN MILLION BELI!”

“TEN MILLION?! HOLY SHIT!” You screamed with a dropped jaw.

“Wow! I can’t believe we won something like that!” Luffy said cheerily with a big grin.

At that moment, a large bag was parachuted to your feet from somewhere in the sky. It held all the money in it, as it was marked with a beli sign. You were so amazed, and you felt an unconditional amount of happiness and accomplishment well up inside you. Applause roared through the crowd for you, making you smile even more.

“This is awesome!” Luffy yelled.

“And we never would have achieved this without you! Thank you SO MUCH!” You said with an overjoyed feeling, kissing him on the cheek affectionately.

Luffy jumped in slight surprise at this and put his hand where you kissed him.

“Oh, eheheh… sorry. I was just so happy and…” You started, trying to find a shitty excuse to cover your actions.

“You can do better than that _______!” Luffy said with a smile, grabbing you and kissing you directly on the lips playfully.

With that, the crowd erupted with cheering and wolf whistles. You were so embarrassed now! You didn’t even expect that, an now your face was covered in a crimson blush. It didn’t last long though, as he pulled back and gave you his usual cheeky grin.

“D-dope!” You yelled, smacking his shoulder with defiance, causing him to laugh at you.

“I’m sorry, I had to! It seemed like the appropriate way to congratulate us~!”

You sighed. “Just… grab the money and let’s head back to the ship. We’re making a sceeeennneeee!” You whined, feeling embarrassed by the loads of people.

“You look cute when you’re embarrassed!” Luffy laughed.

“Let’s go!” You persisted with your extremely red face. “The ship will be here by now. And hide the money from Nami. She can’t have it. We won it.” You added.

“Because of that ‘damn song?’” Luffy asked playfully.

“Because I was bored, wanted fun, AND that damn song.” You concluded.

With that, you grabbed the money and turned for the docks with Luffy, the cheering and whistling still following you as you left through the gold plated arch. As you walked, gripping the bag of money, before you were in the sights of the ship, you quickly leaned up and planted a small kiss on Luffy’s cheek now that you were out of the crowd.

“Thanks.” You murmured.

He laughed and put an arm around your waist. “Anytime for you _______, my AWESOME dance partner~!”
