Tears stung the corners of Usopp’s eyes at the sight he saw. Frozen in place from the shock, the two assassins took notice if him.

“Looks like another one has shown up. Kill ‘im!” One of them yelled turning their attention to Usopp.

“YOU’RE SERIOUS! YOU FUCKING STABBED ________!” Usopp screamed in rage. “I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!”

“Right! Your friend didn’t put up much of a fight herself. You can’t be any better!” One of them taunted.

“HI NO TORI BOSHI!” Usopp yelled, releasing a giant burst of fire in the shape of a phoenix from his slingshot.

The nearest assassin was caught off guard and took the hit of the Fire Bird Star dead centre. Falling back, he screamed in pain as the fire burned and scalded him, charring his clothes and leaving holes everywhere. Somehow, the assassin survived it, due to an oh so craftily placed piece of heat resistant metal underneath his clothes. Though 3rd degree burns were present on his arms and other parts of his body.

“You shit! We came to kill, and kill we will!” The other assassin screamed, knife still dripping with your blood.

“TRY ME, SHIT SACK.” Usopp yelled, charging at the two of them.

The assassins both attempted to hack away at Usopp as they did to you, but the sheer amount of rage building up inside Usopp caused him to flawlessly dodge every swipe of their daggers. Thrusting his fists out, he knocked them both down to the ground before he pulled out Kuro Kabuto again and readied another shot.

“Midori Boshi: IMPACT WOLF!” He commanded, releasing one of his pop greens at the two assassins.

The moment it bloomed into a giant grass wolf, the two of them jumped up and began running away in fear. Nevertheless, the giant grass wolf chased after them, threatening to kill at any moment. Not getting too far, the nose of the wolf emitted a huge shockwave and sent the assassins flying forwards and into the woods somewhere as it disappeared. There was a reassuring crunch from within the woods as bits of red flew out into view, signalling that damage was done enough to cause them to bleed badly.

Quickly turning his attention to you, Usopp ran over to you and collapsed to his knees by your side, completely in tears.

“_______! Oh my god! Please! Don’t die!” He cried, unsure of what to do. “CHOPPER!” He screamed.

Your wounds hadn’t stopped bleeding. The gash in your left arm was beginning to show bone, the stab in your side was still oozing blood, and the fatal blow to your chest was insisting on letting all your blood flow up and out. Your eyes were slit, just enough for you to see your surroundings as you clung onto the fine thread that was your life. The sight you saw pained you more that your wounds. Usopp crying. Not smiling like usual. Just crying, over you. It was a hard thing for you to see, and stung worse than all three wounds put into one. In the time you lied there, bleeding out your essence of life, you realized that this was the end of the line for you. These fatal wounds would never let anyone continue living.

U-Usopp…” You murmured weakly. “I-it’s not your fault. Please don’t cry over me. I h-have no chance.”

“NO! You can’t die! No!” Usopp protested in a complete state of denial.

“It’s too late.” You said weakly. “I-!” You attempted to speak, but ended up coughing up blood instead.

A second later, Chopper had ran into view, and burst into tears in the split second he saw you.

“_______!” He cried. “T-these wounds! I-I, they’re too deep!” He fretted, rummaging through his bag. “I HAVE NOTHING TO HELP! WHAT DO I DO!” He screamed, falling to the ground and rolling away, crying hard.

Your vision blurred for a moment, but you forced yourself to regain focus for another moment. If you were going to die, you weren’t going without your last word.

“Usopp… I h-have no chances left to live. If I’m going to go, I have one last thing I want you to hear.” You whispered, coughing up a bit more blood.

Usopp stared at you tears still flowing steadily down his face.

“U-Usopp… even though I’m going to die, I want you to know, how m-much, I love you, a-and how much, I’m going t-to miss you.” You choked out, wheezing desperately for and amount of air.

Usopp’s eyes widened and he began to cry even harder. “_______! I will NEVER let you die! Not after hearing that!” He shouted, grabbing one of your hands and gripping it tightly.

“But… I am. A-and even so, I just wanted you to know. At least I-I can’t have the fear of r-rejection.” You stuttered.

“There would have never been a fear of rejection, because I love you back too much to see you feel that emotion!” Usopp argued.

Your own eyes opened a bit more from his words. Tears pricked the corners of your eyes and what energy you had left, went into the emotion of regret. “Y-you, love, me. U-Usopp…” You uttered quietly.

“I’ll NEVER, let you die!” Usopp emphasized once more.

“B-but, I-!” You spoke, but was once again, interrupted by your near death state.

You coughed blood once more, and started to grow limp from lack of blood. Your vision grew fuzzy, and you could no longer see properly. With your last words, you whispered something once more, just before you passed on.

“I-I’m sorry, Usopp. I love you s-so much, but I can’t s-stay long enough to prove it. I'm sorry I never said anything before. G-good bye.” You murmured, growing completely limp and letting your eyes close as you slipped into darkness, heart stopping completely.

Usopp screamed your name in sorrow before crying out loud, more than he ever has in his life. Chopper’s cries were just as loud filling the air with despair, but another voice was present. It sounded wise, and in full ability to help someone. It was the voice of a spirit. It was no longer dwelling within the tree, but speaking out loud as to the point where one doesn’t need a tuned sixth sense to hear it. Usopp and Chopper heard it, and grew silent to hear its words.

“Young ones, take my leaves! Extract the remedy within my leaves. From the great tree!” It spoke.

Chopper had run and grabbed a handful of leaves from the great tree you had died by, tears still streaming down his face, and began to crush them into a pulp as quickly as he possibly could. He had a great amount of it soon. Enough to fill a bottle.

“Put it on her wounds. This young one’s time to die isn’t now.” The spirit spoke. “I believe one of you said you would never let her die. She won’t. Not while I’m here.”

Usopp gulped as Chopper hustled over to you and began to pour the glowing green solution onto your wounds. It steamed and small plumes of smoke rose from your wounds as he poured. While Chopper poured the rest onto each of your wounds, the faint outline of a bird was present above your body. It looked to be crying over each of your wounds. Chopper and Usopp noticed, but didn’t jump back. It held a sense of peace and hope with them.

As Chopper poured the last of the solution on your wounds, he dropped the bottle and gasped loudly. Usopp’s eyes widened and he let go of your hand as he watched what was happening.

All of your wounds that were completely fatal and deeper than an inch began to instantly close up. All the blood disappeared back into your body and the wounds closed up to a seamless line, leaving absolutely no trace that you were ever harmed in any way. You felt yourself being pulled from the darkness. Your heart slowly began to pick up a beat and bring life back into your body. All your senses came back to you, and you twitched, opening your eyes slowly. Once they were fully opened, you remembered your surroundings and the forest, but not the faint outline of a bird nearby. Regardless, you took a deep breath of air once again, and heard Chopper scream and start crying again.

“A-am I… what, happened?” You questioned, pushing yourself up slightly to get a better view of your surroundings.

Looking around, you saw Chopper crying, the outline of a bird, and once you fully turned to your right, Usopp, on his knees beside you, hands digging into the dirt. Tears steadily dripped from his face and to the ground as he slowly looked up at you.

“D-did I… die?” You asked.

“__-_______!” Usopp yelled, crying hard again, grabbing you and pulling you into a tight, warm hug. “I-I thought you were dead! I-I’m so happy!”

“S-so I was…” You murmured. “I’m sorry I had let myself die like that.” You cried, hugging him back. “But how am I even alive?!” You asked, completely confused.

“That would be my doing, _______.” The spirit said.

The voice came from the outline of the bird you saw.

“Y-your voice sounds familiar.” You said, looking at it. “A-are you..?”

“I am the spirit of the great tree in the centre of this clearing. A phoenix.”

“H-how, did I live?”

“The medicine your friend Chopper used was from my leaves. The solution from within the are like my tears. A phoenix’s tears can heal any wound, no matter how deep, no matter how badly poisoned.” The phoenix said.

“Amazing!” Chopper finally said.

“… Thank you. For letting me live.” You said, getting teary again.

“Your will let you live. And his too.” The phoenix said, pointing a wing to Usopp. “He said he would never let you die. I helped him fulfill this, not just because it wasn’t your time to go, but because of his love for you.”

The faint memory of your admittance to loving him just as you died came back to you.

“I-I said I loved you?” You questioned, looking at Usopp.

He nodded. “And I was never going to let you die. Not after that, because I love you too much to see you go.”

“U-Usopp. I-I…” You didn’t know what to say. Words didn’t come to you anymore.

“_______, I know you meant it. I mean it too. I’ll never let you die ever again. If you do, I’ll never be able to live with myself.”

You started crying again, tears flowing down your face as you covered your mouth with your hand.

“I’m just so glad you’re alive!” Usopp said with a teary smile. “Now don’t ever die again, _______. I fucking love you too much.” He emphasized, grabbing you and kissing you with all his passion.

The kiss filled you with so much emotion a once. You cried, but they were tears of happiness. The passion that flowed through the kiss was immense, and you felt how much he cared for you. It was like a spiritual bond was formed between the two of you, and you understood how much he wanted to be with you, and how dead he would be without you. You kissed him back, letting all your fear and death melt away. You were never going to lose trust in your instincts and leave out of sight without someone again. If it meant leaving Usopp, you wouldn’t do it. He grabbed your waist and pulled you in close, refusing to let go of your once damaged body, for fear he might lose it, and you wrapped your arms around his neck, as if he was the very thing you needed to cling to for life. In the background, the phoenix showed signs of a slight smile as it backed away to the giant tree.

“Love is a powerful thing. Embrace what you have, and you will go far.” The phoenix echoed, melting into the tree.

Every tree around you, including the big one, glowed brighter that they were before. Small green balls floated up from the trees and around, showing signs of life, and that you shall live on forever.

What Usopp parted from you, you rested your head on his chest and slowed your tears, hugging him tightly.

“I never want to die again. Not if I have to leave you.” You said.

“I’ll never let you die. That’s a promise I will always keep.” He reassured. “But just for emergencies, Chopper, I’d like you to make ten bottles of that remedy, just in case.” Usopp said.

Chopper nodded and began to crush leaves and make the special phoenix tear medicine. As he did, he watched you grip onto Usopp tightly as he hugged you back, just as tight as you were. Chopper finally showed a small smile as he worked. The sight of you two was sweet. A relationship that would last forever. You felt safe in his arms, no matter how much of a dork he was, he was there for you, when you died, and when you came back. Your love would forever be held together by his promise, and both of your wills.

Tired from everything that happened, you ignored everything around you and let yourself rest in his arms, finally feeling a sense of peace after everything. Peace, tranquility, and love.

"Love is a powerful thing. Embrace what you have, and you will go far."
